ACCORDing to Aunt Ruth...

In the years of photographing, learning from, and eating with Aunt Ruth, I also documented her ingredients for a life well lived.

ACCORDing to Aunt Ruth:

You must love with your whole heart.  Cooking for family and friends is one way I show love.  We had a big dining room table, and we loved to entertain.  It is a different world now.  People don’t seem to have lifelong friends like we did or even serve big dinners, but one thing I think should never change is that you must respect each other.

With respect to Aunt Ruth, the love she gave to so many, and the delicious food she served, we are offering an ACCORDion book with a selection of Aunt Ruth’s favorite recipes.

The book can be yours if you leave a comment on this blog until midnight, April 21, when I will print comments and drop them into a hat to randomly select the lucky recipient. Please sign your comment with a first name. The name doesn’t even have to be yours to keep your anonymity, but I need a way to recognize you as The Recipe Recipient!

You can leave as many comments as you want.

Each one is a chance to get the ACCORDION BOOK!

On Monday, April 22, I will post the selected name on this blog, and you can send me a direct email with your address.  The ACCORDion and Aunt Ruth’s love will be yours.  Remember, ACCORDing to Aunt Ruth, everything tastes better shared!

Every Comment Counts!  Don't forget to share.

  20. Live long friends is indeed a bit difficult when in the middle of your life you move to a different continent and start a new life there - with new friends eventually. But having dinner with them - oh yes, I love that!
    The accordion book looks neat!

Here is my comment: "I am looking forward to trying the apple cake recipe. I feel as though I have met aunt Ruth and I will think of her and you when I cook."

  23. It's hard to know how to put it into words how I feel - Aunt Ruth was so much more than a lady I read about - her warmth & love shone through the internet, thousands of miles away - maybe it's because she shines through you Honey - but there is no doubt she touched me deeply - inspired me to live a positive life when it can so easily be negative. I think this is a beautiful way to share Aunt Ruth just a little bit more :)

  24. Honey,

Thank you for taking the time to put together this memento to share with those who have come to love Aunt Ruth and her wisdom. As a person who loves to cook, the idea of having some of her recipes only reinforces the connection.

  25. There are such wonderful people in this world, we are lucky to have met. Your Aunt Ruth is one of them. One great thing she did is leave you to continue passing her caring traditions on. I am enlightened by this good deed. Carry on!

  26. This is an especially important time to spread good vibes and upbeat messages. Sharing food and wisdom and cherishing friends and family never get old. I had an Aunt Vivian who inspired me just as your Aunt Ruth has done for you. May all the good trump evil!!!

  28. Aunt Ruth was the true definition of Love for she shared it with everyone she new. No matter what race, size, or religion you were, Aunt Ruth loved and cared for all of her family, friends, and love ones. Through the many lunches, dinners, and outings, Aunt Ruth always shared her wisdom and knowledge, always loving, caring, and sharing where ever she was. If everyone would learn to love, care, and share and also treat others the way that they would want to be treated, just as Aunt Ruth did, the world would be a much better place to live in and that is why I am so thankful to have had Aunt Ruth in my life.
I love you Aunt Ruth always and for ever!

  32. Recipe of life is cooking with love. Sounds like Aunt Ruth passed on some loving recipes to all she cared about

  33. What a brilliant idea! First to compile the recipes so beautifully in a book and then to share them with the world, spreading Aunt Ruth's love. I heard Michael Pollard today on NPR and he spoke of how the family meal can be the beginning of democracy for our children....sharing and communing together. I think Aunt Ruth would agree. Blessings, Yvette Meltzer
